Begin with a Comprehensive Evaluation

Care begins with a comprehensive evaluation designed to understand breathing, oralfacial function, posture, movement, and overall system patterns as an interconnected whole.

This in-depth assessment includes a review of your health history, including what has helped and what has not, along with a detailed look at breathing patterns, tongue mobility and tone, swallow function, facial and oral development, sleep and airway health, posture, and related functional patterns.

The evaluation serves as the foundation for care and allows for individualized recommendations based on your specific needs, goals, and presentation.

FAQ

Every evaluation begins by understanding your concerns, symptoms, and goals. From there, we assess the strength, coordination, and movement of the lips, tongue, jaw, cheeks, and palate, along with breathing patterns, nasal function, respiratory muscle strength, posture, movement, and overall regulation. We also review your health history, sleep concerns, routines, and habits while performing a variety of functional assessments and measurements to better understand the full picture.

If your primary concerns relate to movement, balance, coordination, strength, or physical function, the evaluation will place greater emphasis on these areas while considering how breathing and oral function may also contribute.

Assessments may include breathing pattern analysis, validated questionnaires, physiological measures, functional evaluation of tongue mobility and tongue-tie related restrictions, swallowing assessment, posture and movement evaluation, and individualized breathing or functional challenges as appropriate.

The evaluation is designed to create a comprehensive understanding of how breathing, oral function, posture, movement, and overall regulation work together as an interconnected system.

Following the evaluation, you’ll receive individualized recommendations based on your findings, goals, and specific needs.

No. You do not need to determine this ahead of time. You start with a comprehensive evaluation which is designed to assess your needs and determine the most appropriate path forward.

Following the evaluation, a treatment plan will be recommended and care may include:

  • Myofunctional Therapy
  • Integrative Breathing Therapy
  • Movement-based work
  • or a combination approach

Because breathing, oral function, posture, and movement are interconnected, recommendations are not one-size-fits-all and are guided by your individual assessment.

This evaluation is for adults or children ages 3 and up who are experiencing challenges with breathing, sleep, oral function, dental development, jaw or neck tension, posture, allergies or chronic congestion, digestion, energy, focus, or mood, or a general sense that something in daily function or development isn’t working as it should.

It is also appropriate for those with respiratory and non-respiratory concerns, as well as individuals seeking to support stress resilience, improve performance, and optimize overall health and well-being.

The comprehensive evaluation is approximately 60 minutes. For children under 18, a parent or legal guardian must be present during the appointment.

The comprehensive evaluation is ideally completed in person whenever possible, as this allows for the most complete assessment using hands-on and real-time screening, biofeedback, and functional movement observation.

However, if travel or other factors make in-person care difficult, a telehealth evaluation is available. While the format differs, the goal remains the same to gain a clear understanding of breathing, oral function, posture, and overall regulation in order to guide appropriate next steps.
